Lynne Bernabei Quoted in Washington Business Journal regarding Isabella Sexual Harassment Suits

The Washington Business Journal reported on the controversy over celebrity chef Mike Isabella’s settlement of sexual harassment lawsuits. The article discussed whether the “corrective measures” including training for managers and staff, would be enforceable since this was a private settlement agreement. Lynne Bernabei was quoted about the problematic aspects of trying to enforce these “binding” measures, which is why it is desirable to specify an independent person or group to conduct the training and other corrective measures. She explained that the public concern about sexual harassment was often the only way to force employers to change their practices. Lynne concluded, “Unfortunately that’s where we are. That’s why the #MeToo movement exists, because people know the legal system doesn’t work for them,” since “We’ve got a lot of work to do to change the law, and to make resources available, in particular to lower wage workers, so they can bring claims.”
