EMILY BRITTAIN READ, ATTORNEY

Emily Brittain Read received her B.A. from Cornell University in 2001, her J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 2004, and her L.L.M. with honors from Georgetown University School of Law in 2007. Prior to joining Bernabei & Wachtel, PLLC, Ms. Read served as a Teaching Fellow at the Institute for Public Representation, a civil rights clinical program at Georgetown University Law Center. As a Teaching Fellow, she managed complex litigation in state and federal courts and before administrative tribunals, and supervised third-year law students. As part of her fellowship, Ms. Read spent a semester as a visiting Staff Attorney at the University of the District of Columbia in the David A. Clarke School of Law Juvenile and Special Education Law Clinic. Before her fellowship, Ms. Read worked for the Mental Health Advocacy Project in San Jose, California, where she represented clients in disability discrimination, health care, public benefits, and housing matters. Ms. Read served as a Coordinating Attorney for the District of Columbia Bar's Pro Bono Program Advice and Referral Clinics, and is currently a Volunteer Attorney with the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless. She is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
