Policy & Practice Magazine Publishes David Wachtel’s Article

David Wachtel, with Sasha Sajovic, has written an article published in the September 2007 issue of Policy & Practice Magazine, entitled “Interactive Process for Hiring the Disabled”. The article outlines the steps businesses should follow to ensure proper handling of employees with disabilities. The article focuses on the “interactive process” between the employer and the employee after hiring a disabled individual to determine reasonable accommodations for the individual that may be necessary. The article aims to assist both employers and employees on what may prove to be a difficult issue, since it is not one that can be addressed during the hiring process. It provides guidelines for how to handle a disabled employee and avoid litigation, while pointing out that there are other options besides firing them and by choosing one of those options, increasing productivity.
