Former American University Professor Encounters Age Discrimination in Bid for Tenure
JUNE 13, 2013
Inside Higher Ed recently reported on the tenure denial case brought by Maria Ivancin, a client of our firm. Ms. Ivancin, who had extensive professional and practical experience in the communications field, and positive reviews in her work while on the tenure track, was approved for tenure by her department and by the dean of the School of Communications. However, the provost denied her tenure application on unjustifiable grounds. Ms. Ivancin has brought both breach of contract claims, and age discrimination claims based in part on ageist remarks made about the ongoing hiring process at American University.
