Wharton Article Tackles Problems Facing Interns
The Knowledge @ Wharton bulletin recently published a lengthy article on the problems faced by interns in the workplace. Lynne Bernabei discussed the failure of most federal and state laws to protect interns from workplace harassment and discrimination, and the ease by which this could be fixed by adding interns to the definition of “employees” in these laws. Bernabei & Kabat’s work in a New York case involving sexual harassment of interns by their supervisor recently led to the New York City Council to amend the New York City Human Rights Law to include interns as employees.
